SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12, 2016 9:00AM - 3:30PM A Day of Renewal in the Lord’s Prayer Speaker: Rev. Darrell Johnson “57 Words that Change the World” (includes Sunday November 13 – Preaching at North Creek Presbyterian 9:00 and 11:00) Cost: $25 (lunch provided)
Co-sponsored with and located at North Creek Presbyterian Church in Mill Creek. To register see www.renewalminnw.org or call 425-361-7953. In September the Session was visited by Lorrie N. from the Commission on Ministry of our Presbytery, Northwest Coast. www.northwestcoast.org In the report that Lorrie prepared, she noted that “One elder spoke of his sense of a “consistency” in this church. He reflected on his role as an elder over the years and how the church continues to work at making choices that help to move forward. … He sees this consistency in the life of the church as a positive of which he appears grateful.” She closed her report with these words: “I left the session meeting feeling exhilarated that the Holy Spirit is alive and well at Edmonds Presbyterian Church. Thanks be to God!”

The General Assembly of our denomination, the Presbyterian Church USA, will meet for its biennial meeting June 18-26 in Portland, Oregon. This is the closest to us that the General Assembly has ever convened, so if you are in Portland during that time please stop by the Convention Center and check out the fabulous exhibit hall or sit in on some of the business before the Assembly. Two years ago Karen R. was a Young Adult Advisory Delegate. This year Pastor Amy is a Teaching Elder Commissioner from Northwest Coast Presbytery. For more info see: http://oga.pcusa.org/section/ga/222nd-general-assembly-2016/ Want to see how our PCUSA General Assembly works? Our General Assembly meets every two years, rotating regions of the United States. This year the GA is in Portland, Oregon June 17-25. If you are able to visit, consider volunteering. If you can’t attend, but want to support the assembly in prayer, the Committee on Local Arrangements (COLA) is looking for people to be prayer partners for the commissioners and delegates. More information on how to volunteer in person or in prayer can be found at the COLA website, http://www.gaportland.com/ Want to see how our PCUSA General Assembly works? Come and join Pastor Amy for a morning of study, conversation, and dialogue about Christianity, the Reformed branch of Christianity (which is where Presbyterians fit in the Christian family tree) and how that is uniquely expressed in the work and mission of Edmonds Presbyterian Church. Members, friends of the church, and visitors are all welcome. Our tentative date/time is Saturday December 5, 10AM-12 PM. Our Presbytery, Northwest Coast, held its annual VERGE event last month. There were seven speakers who each gave a short 18 minute “TED talk” on innovation in church. It was fantastic, and the speakers’ videos are posted on the NW Coast website:
http://www.northwestcoast.org/learning-community/ This year’s retreat theme is “meeting God in the messy middle.” At the retreat, Jeff and Margie will introduce us to Spiritual practices to empower Christian Professionals to be God’s people in the midst of the challenges and opportunities in today’s market place. Have you ever wondered, “How do we navigate as faithful followers of Jesus in the messy places in our lives? Particularly what do we do when our work seems to leave us with no good options? When should Christians compromise?” Intrigued? I hope you will consider attending. The location will be Bethany Presbyterian Church, Seattle. The cost is $35 until October 1, then $50. More information can be found at renewalminnw.org.
