Would you sponsor a book for Westgate Elementary? $15.83

The 21 Day Challenge for racial justice group is alive and well at Edmonds Presbyterian Church. We are now entering day 200+ since we starting in June of last year. We are “slightly” over the 21-day mark but passionate about our  mission. One of the projects we are working on is purchasing racially diverse books that have been requested by Teresa W, the librarian at Westgate Elementary. Teresa has provided us a list of 36 books with a total cost of $541.73.

Each month, one of the members of the 21 Day Challenge group will be sharing with you a book from the list and the cost of that book. It is our hope that you will wish to sponsor the book with a donation. Please do not purchase the book as Teresa is able to get a discount by purchasing all the books from one source.

To sponsor this month’s book, send a check to the church office for $15.83.

This month, get prepared to go outdoors as we review:
“The Not-So Great Outdoors”

The star of this book is a young lady who is a member of a family of four. We are never told the young ladies name, but she is about 10 years old (see her picture on the book cover above). She lives in a large city and is not looking forward to the planned summer vacation to “the great outdoors.”
Arriving in “the great outdoors” she laments about nothing to do, no electricity, no fountains or sculptures, and no lights to look out the window and night. She doesn’t understand where all the animals live, there are no apartments.

As the story progresses, she starts to enjoy “the great outdoors.” She notices the songbirds and compares them to street performers. She gets to go fishing and indicates it is not as much fun as catching a bus, but it is fun catching a fish. She is starting to like “the great outdoors.”
I don’t want to spoil the story for you, but by the time she returns home…she can’t wait to tell her friends about “the great outdoors.”

Review: By Book Critic Don “scribbles” I.
