Our program was a presentation by Kathy Kennard of the Red Cross about their Sound the Alarm program that plans to place free fire alarms in every home they can reach, in order to save lives from house fires. Their goal is to place 250 new smoke alarms into homes in the region before June 15. Local fire departments have volunteered to deliver and place the alarms after the Red Cross provides the alarms. Margaret S is sending out information on how to be sure you have an escape plan and how to request a new smoke alarm. When you receive the request form please enter your address and sign it then return it to Margaret so she can deliver it to the Red Cross. Please contact Margaret if you did not receive a request form.
We also received information about Earthquake safety. You are all acquainted with the DROP, COVER, and HOLD teaching in our schools. That is still good advice. You can prepare by picking a safe spot in each room away from windows or from heavy objects that could fall on you. Under a table is one good place. Stay indoors until the shaking stops, then look around with caution and test any stairs before using them. Make a family plan of a safe meeting place, who to call for help or if separated, and make an emergency kit with at least 3 days food and water supply.
Our June meeting on June 9th will be our last meeting until September. Jan Griffith said she will try to join us to tell of her activities in Sweden. We are asked to keep her in our prayers that she regains her energy after a bout with exhaustion syndrome. Also keep Ruth and Billy Joe R in our prayers that their health will be restored. We all need to give a prayer of thanks that with the help of immunizations the COVID Virus is having less influence on our lives and we are having hope that our church will be back to “normal” soon.
