Thanks in part to our EPC Deacons, Westgate Elementary supports families in need during the holiday season.

Each year, Westgate Elementary and their community provide support to families in need, in hopes of making their holiday season a little brighter.

With the unprecedented pandemic, there are more requests for help this year than ever before and the community has given more than ever before. Collectively, the Westgate community has raised over $8,000! Recipients receive gift cards that have been donated by Westgate staff, families, community members, and organizations.

Westgate was able to give something to every family that made a request this year. Westgate thanks each and every person that gave, especially the Stoneman family and the Sorge family, as well as the large community donors, including the Westgate Parent Student Organization (PSO), Westgate Chapel, Edmonds Presbyterian Church, Calvary Christian Assembly, and Edmonds Vision Center.

Congregational Meeting

A congregational meeting was held on September 22nd to elect a new class of elders and approve the changes in Pastor Amy’s terms of call. Elders for the class of 2022 are Gay H. and Don H., Sr. Thank-you to both for their service to the church! We will elect a new class of deacons at another date. Pastor Amy’s terms of call have been three-quarters time. On Sunday we approved reducing her hours to half-time in recognition of the smaller congregational size. Much of what she does for the congregation will remain the same. A full copy of the new terms of call is available in the office.

The Deacons’ Fund Helps Our Community in Times of Need

Thank you to all who donate to our Deacons’ fund. The Deacons’ fund is available to help those coming to church and our neighbors in Edmonds with one-time emergent needs. We have paid for a night in a hotel, an electric bill, a bus ticket, food, gas, diapers, a car bill, and so much more. Thank you for helping make this ministry possible. It is good to know that if someone calls the church looking for assistance, we may be able to help them.

Thanks to your generous donations, the Deacons fund now has a healthy balance available to help those in need. It has been a hard winter for many, and it is a blessing to be able to share from our abundance with those who are struggling. Thank-you for your donations which make this ministry possible.

The Deacons’ quarterly meeting will be Sunday April 28th following worship. If you are a Deacon, please put the date on your calendar or talk with Don H. Jr if you are unable to attend.
The Deacons are on the front-lines of our caring ministry at the church. They often work in the background, so you may not know all that they do. One part of their ministry is allocating the monies donated to the Deacons’ fund. The Deacons have helped a number of local residents with gas and food gift cards, housing assistance, and other support. Thank you for your gifts to this fund. Through your generosity we bless our church community and the larger Edmonds community.

If you would like to assist the church in helping with immediate needs in our community, please consider a gift to the deacon’s fund. The Deacons have their own account. If you are interested, or know someone who you think would make a great elder or deacon, please speak with Don I. or Don H., Sr. Once we have the nominees in place, we will hold a short congregational meeting to elect these new officers.

The Deacons say “thank you” for your donations to the Deacons’ Fund! We continue to assist congregation and community members with emergent needs, from assisting with housing, paying a bill, or giving a gift card. We are blessed to be able to share with our friends and neighbors. You may give a gift to the Deacons Fund any Sunday, simply write “deacons fund” on the memo line of your check.
